In Claude Philippe Nolin’s perspective, art can change society, even if it is often one individual at a time. He was twenty years old when he invested himself in social action, in the preparation of different events and in the management of cultural organizations.

 

During his studies in Montreal, he co-operates to the edition of a student fanzine of comic strips. He is a university student representative at the modular counsel in plastic arts where he actively participates to a project for modifying the school program and also one that establishes an adequate evaluation of the teachings. He participates in the organization of congresses, expositions and package tours. As a student leader, he conducts many fights on litigious files and is the co-author of a manifest on the flaws of democratic management at UQAM.

 

Following the censorship of one of his works, he undertakes a deep reflection on art and its social role, on artists’ freedom of expression, as well as society’s rights and freedoms. He also worked on a video document on censorship in Visual Art.

 

In the 1980’s, he is a member of several cultural organizations including Les Ateliers du Parc, L’Atelier continu, and the Corporation of La Nuit de la Pointe-Sèche which he presides for a few years. In 1986, he is lecturer at the UQAT in art and communication.

 

He is also one of the founders and directors of the Café Le Calembour, the daycare St-Édouard for which he was negotiator, as well as for the alternative School Rose-des-vents. He also participates in the management of these daycares: Chez vous Chez nous and St-Louis.

 

In the 1990’s, Claude Philippe Nolin resides in Rimouski. He is a member of the Art Council of Bas-Saint-Laurent and sits on the Committee of Visual Arts. He is founder and president of Arts and culture BSL. He becomes a columnist for the newspaper Le Mouton Noir and cartoonist for the weekly Le Fleuve. He occasionally teaches art and multimedia at the regional university and colleges.

 

At UQAR, he contributes to the management of the art gallery and the establishment of an art rental service. He was a consultant for the creation of certificates in Visual Art and Digital Art. He addresses to the Board of Directors of the institution a memoire for the creation of a multimedia service.

 

Back in Montreal, he undertakes more actively the fight against the neoliberal economic globalization by becoming responsible for the Committee on information of the Opération SalAMI. He participates in the design and production of costumes and giant puppets. He also sits at the Committee of strategic planning Cap-Monde.

 

He publishes many texts for worthy thinking in L'aut' journal and intervenes on several occasions on the Radio-Canada stands about social and cultural topics. He has led workshops at the Quebec’s social Summit in 2009 and presents the following year an exhibition of photos and texts on rights and freedoms.

 

Professional in design of the interfaces and architecture for distant learning applications, he collaborates for many years in the media coverage of the contents of teaching with researchers, teachers and technicians, besides contributing to research in his field.

 

Lately, he was consultant for the Maison du dévelopment durable where he has proposed and realized the design of hanging equipment in the exhibition space of the atrium.

 

After many years spent working in multimedia, Claude Philippe chose to dedicate fully to his artistic career and to the culture. He puts his talents and know-how at society’s service.

 

In parallel to his work in creation, he wok for the World Social Forum - Montreal 2016 at the Art adn culture comity and he is the initiator of a project for the establishment of a centre for artists in the Montreal borough of Villeray - Saint-Michel - Parc-Extension.
